Antimicrobial Resistance Thematic Program Travel Award

The AMR Thematic Program Travel Award is intended to enable early-stage investigators and trainees in the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) AMR Thematic Program to attend conferences, workshops, or training activities in their areas of interest and present their work.

Awards are intended to enhance experience and further the work of IDI member labs and the institute by providing greater exposure for the work presented and for the efforts of the AMR Thematic Program area.

Funding Use

  • Accepted abstract for poster or oral presentation at a national or international AMR related conference
  • To defer the cost of business travel (transportation, lodging, registration, etc.)
  • The conference, workshop, or training activity must be related to the applicant’s academic or professional development

Amount

Travel awards of up to $1,000 each will be awarded

Application and Funding Timeline

Applications for travel awards can be submitted any time after abstract has been accepted but must be at least three weeks prior to the specified conference start date. Travel award must be used for future travel.

Applications must be in the form of a single PDF file sent to the IDI inbox (IDI@osu.edu) with the subject line, “AMR Travel Award Application”

The application must consist of a request letter and an abstract describing the work to be presented at the conference.

  • The request letter must include:
    • Name, email address, college/department, and mentor
    • Title of meeting
    • Dates and location of the meeting
    • Estimated travel costs to be incurred

Eligibility

  • Early-stage investigator (i.e., junior faculty) status at Ohio State or Nationwide Children’s Hospital
  • Registered graduate or undergraduate students enrolled in a degree program at Ohio State
  • Postdoctoral researchers at Ohio State or Nationwide Children’s Hospital
  • Be a member of the IDI AMR Thematic Program area (Not a member? Join the IDI)

Process

  • Award funds will be managed by the IDI and can be used in conjunction with funds from your home unit
    • Worktags will be provided for use by the award recipient to initiate the appropriate Workday actions
    • All university and college/department/unit travel policies and procedures apply
    • Work with your college/department/unit fiscal/travel professional to plan travel as needed
  • Award recipients must acknowledge receipt of this travel award in their poster, presentation, or summary of the experience as follows: “Travel to this conference was partially supported by funds provided by The Ohio State University, Infectious Diseases Institute, Antimicrobial Resistance Thematic Program”
  • Award recipients will be required to present a 5-10 minute talk summarizing their work at a special thematic program area meeting to be held to highlight the research of the trainees receiving awards
  • Award recipients may be asked to participate in IDI-related activities
