Wicked Science Program

Are you interested in tackling problems that don’t have easy answers? Wicked science is the study of how to tackle wicked problems.

Wicked problems encompass a wide range of local, national, and global challenges that require transdisciplinary collaboration as we seek more equitable and sustainable resolutions and outcomes. Wicked scientists use tools such as interdisciplinary approaches, collaboration, systemic thinking, and holistic views to address wicked problems such as deforestation and industrial pollution which frequently have global implications.

Join a New Learning Community on "Creating Wicked Students"

“Wicked” students have a sense of authority and believe they are capable of addressing wicked problems, or problems that are messy, evolving, and have no clear solutions. Ohio State faculty, associated faculty, and lecturers from all disciplines and colleges are encouraged to apply to a new year-long learning community to explore this concept. Participants will read and discuss Creating Wicked Students: Designing Courses for a Complex World by Paul Hanstedt. By the end of the year, they will have designed or redesigned or a course with wicked learning outcomes and assessments in mind. Those who complete the project will be eligible for professional development funds.

Apply here by Friday, August 15.
