Christine Petersen, DVM, PhD, College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), has been appointed as an associate director in the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI). Dr. Petersen earned her BA in Biology from Johns Hopkins University, her DVM from Cornell University, and her PhD in Immunology and Infectious Diseases from Harvard University School of Public Health. She is also a member of the prestigious National Academy of Medicine. Dr. Petersen most recently served as a professor in the Department of Epidemiology, College of Public Health, and director of the Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases (CEID) at the University of Iowa before joining Ohio State as associate dean for Research and Graduate Studies.
Dr. Petersen’s research has focused on the intersection of zoonotic, vector-borne, and emerging infectious diseases. Her research areas include epidemiology, immunology, and One Health.
Dr. Petersen will add leadership to the IDI senior leadership team and will be key to continuing the IDI’s partnership with the College of Veterinary Medicine. She will also be instrumental in communicating the strength of the IDI’s interdisciplinary infectious diseases research community to other colleges at Ohio State as well as external organizations.
