IDI Appoints Three New Associate Directors

Meet the newest members of the IDI Executive Committee and learn about their vision for fostering collaboration and research excellence.

Dr. Andrew Bowman

Andrew S. Bowman, MS, DVM, PhD, Diplomate ACVPM, will serve as the associate director for strategic liaisons and institutional facilities for the IDI. Dr. Bowman’s research focuses on zoonotic and emerging infectious diseases at the intersection of animal and human health.

“I’m thrilled to step into this role with IDI to help align our strategic research in emerging pathogens, population health, and agriculture. Working alongside IDI’s leadership, I aim to maximize our high-containment facilities, foster strong cross-campus partnerships, and expand our international reach. Together, we will continue elevating the global eminence of The Ohio State University as a leader in infectious disease research.”

Dr. Jiyoung Lee

Jiyoung Lee, PhD, will serve as the associate director representing the College of Public Health for the IDI. Dr. Lee’s research focuses on contamination of pathogens and microbe-derived metabolites (cyanotoxins) in environmental matrices that lead to direct human exposures and their linkage to health risks.

Dr. Jiyoung Lee

Dr. Jacob Yount

Jacob Yount, PhD, will serve as the associate director representing the College of Medicine for the IDI. Dr. Yount’s research focuses on how the immune system responds to respiratory viruses, including influenza and SARS-CoV-2, and how these infections can cause complications beyond the lungs, particularly in the heart.
