Dr. Sheryl Justice: An International Voice for Urinary Tract Infection Research

Sheryl Justice, PhD, associate professor, College of Nursing, is using her years of urinary tract infection research, education, and mentorship to lead the planning committee for the Urinary Tract Infection Global Alliance (UTIGA) 5thClinical and Scientific Advances in Urinary Tract Infections conference to be held July 19-21, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Columbus. The UTIGA is an international society of clinical, research, and biomedical professionals focused on facilitating interdisciplinary interactions, identifying research needs to develop new diagnostics, and to better understand, treat, and prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs) which impact ~150 million individuals every year. Dr. Justice serves as a member of the UTIGA Board of Directors, a role she has held since she established the organization in 2019. “Through my research on UTIs, I focus on the host-pathogen interactions that modulate bacterial virulence and harnessing these observations to develop new interventions to treat UTIs. As UTIs are treated by almost every medical subspeciality, including veterinary medicine, and are investigated by almost every scientific discipline, there are no venues that bring everyone with an interest in improving the management of UTIs. The UTIGA is an excellent global mobilizing body that will continue to advance the research and treatment for UTIs.”
