Dr. Karen Dannemiller, associate professor, Environmental Health Science, College of Engineering, served as conference president for the Indoor Air 2024 Conference held July 7-11, 2024, in Honolulu, HI. It featured an exciting lineup of talks from international experts in the field as well as presentations from Ohio State students and staff who were also in attendance. This year’s conference saw 926 attendees with 40 countries represented. Given the existing challenges that have always been of concern, combined with the anticipation of the continuance of heightened awareness and innovative approaches related to addressing infectious diseasecontrol, the conference themes centered around continued improvements in indoor air science and implementation in buildings. Indoor Air 2024 is the flagship global conference of the International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate (ISIAQ).

The IDI Genomics and Microbiology Solutions Lab (IDI-GEMS) has supported dust pathogen surveillance efforts since 2022. Currently, IDI-GEMS works with the Dannemiller lab to test campus dust samples for the presence of SARS-COV-2 and Influenza A and is finalizing assays to test for additional pathogens in dust samples.
