Postdoctoral Trainees
Dr. Jana Cable
Project Title/Focus: Decipher the mechanisms by which prior viral infections impact disease severity, pathology, and lung/heart tissue damage in sequential respiratory virus infections
I am from Bowling Green, Ohio. I obtained my Bachelors Degree in Microbiology at Miami University. I received a PhD in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology from Duke University. In my freetime outside of work and studying, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my dogs. I also love to read.
Dr. Sophie Hopkins
Project Title/Focus: Decoding the immune modulatory effects of Staphylococcus aureus on innate lymphoid cells and S. aureus impact on immune mediated disease
I was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington. I obtained my B.S. degree in Biology from University of Washington. I recieved my M.S. degree in Microbiology from Colorado State University. Outside of work and school, I enjoy being active and outdoors. Specifically, I like to run, mountaineer, backcountry ski, and hang out with my pets.

Carter Dwyer
Project Title/Focus: Define the genetic and functional basis of siderophore production and import/export in Hc to provide fundamental insight into how this pathogen overcomes host-imposed iron restriction
I was born in Davenport, Iowa, and was raised in Wheatland, Iowa. I attended University of Iowa where I studied microbiology for my undergraduate degree. In my free time, I love spoiling my cats. I also enjoy playing video games and reading.
Miranda Hilt
Project Title/Focus: Role of glucocorticoids in stress-induced microbial dysbiosis and antimicrobial defense during infectious gastroenteritis
I was born in Morgantown, West Virignia, but was raised in Westerville, Ohio. I recieved a B.S. degree in Biology, a B.A. degree in English Literary Studies and a B.A. degree in Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies from Otterbein University. Outside of work and school, I really enjoy spending time with my pets and reading.
Michael Parthun
Project Title/Focus: Delineate the unique roles of RIG-I and MDA5 in antiviral immunity throughout IAV infection to identify RIG-I- and MDA5-mediated spatial alterations in IAV distribution and antiviral responses
I am local, hailing from Hilliard, Ohio. I attended The Ohio State University for my undergraduate degree. In my freetime when I'm not at work or studying, I like to boulder.
Emily Rego
Project Title/Focus: Identify MtD inhibitors through high throughput screening (HTS) of small molecule libraries with Salmonella to validate small molecule inhibition of MtlD in vitro
I was born in Cleveland, Ohio. I attended Emory University for my undergrauate degree where I recieved a B.S. degree in Biology. In my free time I enjoy spending time with friends, family, and pets and exploring the many coffee shops of Columbus.
