Congratulations to the IDI’s Fall 2023 Trainee Transformative Research Grant Awardees!

Congratulations to Christopher Gebhardt, graduate research associate, Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity, College of Medicine; Zachary Lewis, graduate research associate, Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine; Matthew McFadden, graduate research associate, Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity, College of Medicine; and Anusree Thenissery, graduate research associate, Center for Food Animal Health, College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. Each received an IDI Fall 2023 Trainee Transformative Research Grant award for their projects as follows:
 
Christopher Gebhardt, applicant (PI: Dr. Patrick Collins) & Hannah Bone, co-applicant (PI: Dr. Adriana Forero) will collaborate on “Investigating how non-homologous end joining impacts thymic output throughout influenza A infection."
 
Zachary Lewis, applicant (PI: Dr. Vanessa Hale) & Makayla Manes, co-applicant (PI: Dr. Patrick Bradley) will collaborate on “Development of a biosensor for evaluating estrogenicity of compounds derived from microbial metabolism of benzo[a]pyrene."
 
Matthew McFadden, applicant (PI: Dr. Adriana Forero) & Srijana Pokhrel, co-applicant (PI: Dr. Ken Oestreich) will collaborate on Role of methyl-CpG binding protein 2 in T cell responses to influenza A virus infection."

Anusree Thenissery, applicant (PI: Dr. Gireesh Rajashekara) & Allysa Cole, co-applicant (PI: Dr. John Gunn) will collaborate on “Elucidation of mechanisms of action of a novel quorum sensing inhibitor of extra-intestinal pathogenicEscherichia coli."

As a reminder, the IDI Trainee Transformative Research Grant program is intended to foster new collaborative efforts and to increase a project's impact, ability to publish, and/or how the research might lead to novel discoveries. There are two RFA cycles, one in the fall and one in the spring. More information on the Spring 2024 call for proposals coming soon.
