Dr. Murugesan Rajaram recently received his first R01 grant ($2.27 million over five years) to study the molecular mechanism of cardiac inflammation and dysfunction in Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection. The NIH grant number is AI146252-01. The co-investigators are Dr. Daniel Wozniak and Dr. Latha Prabha Ganesan. The grant started on July 1, 2019. Dr. Rajaram was also a recipient of a New Investigator Award from PHPID, one of the precursors to the Infectious Diseases Institute, which helped him generate the preliminary data for this NIH grant. He also received funding for an NIH R-21 grant (MPI) to study the mechanisms of cardioprotection by the innate immune system during influenza virus infections. This grant is a multi-PI grant with Dr. Jacob Yount, and it started on June 1, 2019. Congratulations to Dr. Rajaram and his colleagues; this is a perfect example of the kind of return on investment we hope to generate with IDI seed funding!
