The Ohio State microbiome science community was immersed in the latest microbiome science and research on May 8-10, 2023 at the Midwest Microbiome Symposium 2023.The event, cosponsored by the Center of Microbiome Science, College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, and the Infectious Diseases Institute attracted over 200 attendees and featured keynote presentations by Dr. Eric Martens (University of Michigan) and Dr. Kelly Wrighton (Colorado State University) as part of a diverse line up that covered various microbiome topics.

Bravo to all 72 poster presenters and special congratulations to the poster award winners below: 

  • 1st Place – Poster #50 – James Riddell V – The Ohio State University- Combining viral identification tools improves virus sequence identification from mixed metagenomic datasets
  • 2nd Place – Poster #7 – Ruth Eunice Centeno Martinez – Purdue University- Identification of Bovine Respiratory disease in dairy and beef cattle through the nasal microbiome 
  • 3rd Place – Poster #8 – Kayla Cross - The Ohio State University- Nutritionally unbalanced diets reduce gut microbial diversity yet maintain functional redundancy
